SEPTEMBER 25

Full Moon Magic. 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mather Woods, 25032 W. Renwick Road. Is it magic or something else that is in the air on a full moon night? Come and discover the mystery and magic of a full moon night. We will begin with a family-friendly magic show. You will be mystified with the magic, illusions and audience participation. After the magic show get ready for a night hike through the park. Bring your bug spray, flashlight and daring spirit. Registration deadline is Sept. 21 at noon. Fees for event R $12/NR $15. This event geared for kids ages 2-10 with parent.

64th Annual Community Homecoming Parade in Historic Downtown Plainfield. 9 a.m.

Farmers Market. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Plainfield Farmers Market is located at the southwest corner of Lockport Street and Route 59. For more information, call 630-608-7344.

Home by Myself. 9 to 11 a.m. at the Streams Recreation Center, 24319 Cedar Creek Lane, Plainfield. Topics that will be discussed include having a plan for when they are by themselves, how to use the telephone correctly, posting emergency numbers, locking doors and windows, checking in with parents or a trusted neighbor, what to do in case of a fire, adopting a family code, what to do if followed, and how to use and make a first aid kit. Event cost is R $22/NR $28 per participant. Geared for children ages 7-12.

Oktoberfest Celebration. 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. hosted by the St. Mary Immaculate Parish Men’s Club.

Free Asthma Camp. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Inwood Park Pavilion, 3200 Jefferson, Joliet. Children ages 7-14 are invited to join Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center for a one-day asthma camp where they will play, make friends and learn new ways to understand and cope with their condition. Join us as we explore, and play through an exciting variety of activities, listening to great music, and creating outstanding crafts. Cost is R $52/NR $65 per child.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Registration begins at 8 a.m., walk starts at 9 a.m., rain or shine, at Chicagoland Speedway, 500 Speedway Blvd., Joliet. Hundreds of local breast cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers, businesses and community members unite to fight breast cancer at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk. This noncompetitive, inspirational event raises awareness and funds to fight breast cancer and provides hope to all people facing the disease.

SEPTEMBER 27

2015 Healthy Driven Plainfield Harvest 5k Run/Walk & Kidz Miler. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. at Village Green Park in Plainfield. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities and community service organizations. 5k Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m. Kidz Race begins at 8 a.m. Early packet pickup begins Sept. 25. Triad Senior Luncheon. 11 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. This free hot dog luncheon will be held at the Fire District Administration and Training Building, 23748 W. 135th Street. Scoop it, smoosh it, roll it, smell it! Oh the fun we can have with different sensory tables and crafts. Join us to see how much fun we will have! Cost is R $52/NR $65 per child.

Social Stitch: Knitting and Crocheting Time. 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Plainfield library. Every Tuesday, bring your current project or get ideas from others who share the love of knitting or crocheting. No registration is needed. Beginners are welcome.

Hiring Fair. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 176 West Banquets and Catering, 1100 N.E. Frontage Road, Joliet. State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) will be partnering with IDES to hold a hiring fair. The first hour will cater to veterans, and the fair will open to the public at 11 a.m. Employers and job seekers must register for the fair at http://senatorbertinotarrant.com/. Plainfield Fire Protection District Open House. 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 23806 W. 135th St. Please join as we kick off Fire Prevention Week with an open house! There will be displays, demonstrations, free raffles and free hot dogs. Highlights include side-by-side fire  sprinkler demo, children’s firefighter challenge, a visit by Lifestar Safe Electricity, touch a truck and station tours.

Plainfield’s How-To Fair. 50 Free Workshops: One Interactive, Fun, and Informative Weekend.

Taught by local experts and business owners, learning opportunities range from how to tile a backsplash to smart travel; from home brewing to making greeting cards; and from holding an estate sale to making the most of your mobile phone apps. Each workshop is one hour and open to adults and teens over 12. All of the workshops are located in Downtown Plainfield at one of three locations: Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport St.; Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St.; and the Plainfield Township Community Center, 15014 S. DesPlaines St. This event is hosted by the Village of Plainfield, the Plainfield Public Library, and the Plainfield Park District.
