All three area volleyball schools are competing in the Maine South Sectional.
The host Hawks are the No. 6 seed in the sectional and open play in the Hersey Regional against No. 11 Schaumburg at 7 p.m. Oct. 27. A win would put them up against likely No. 3 Hersey at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.
Niles West is the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Rolling Meadows at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Conant Regional.
If the Wolves are victorious they will likely face No. 1 seed New Trier at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.
Maine East is the No. 14 seed and faces No. 18 seed Elk Grove in the Maine East Regional at 6 p.m. Oct. 26.
A Blue Demons win would put them up against No. 2 seed Loyola at 6 p.m. Oct. 27. The regional final is at 6 p.m. Oct. 29.
Sectional semifinals take place Nov. 3 with the sectional final Nov. 5.
•The Blue Demons (10-13, 5-3) beat Deerfield 25-9, 25-16. Kim Sergey had 15 assists and four digs, Niki Ahlstrand had eight kills and three blocks, Maggie Chwieralski tallied seven kills and seven digs and Miranda Duro added seven digs.
Maine South took home the Glenbrook South Sectional title with 30 points. Senior Leigh Friedman defeated freshman teammate Jennifer Ptak in the finals to win the singles title, 6-4, 6-1. Friedman gave up just 10 games in four matches.
The junior doubles tandem of Kamila Czosnyka and Martin Wind are headed to state after placing second at the sectional.
The doubles team and Ptak won all three of their matches in straight sets.
•Niles West junior Eliza Kirov is headed to state after taking fourth place at the Niles North Sectional.
Northridge Prep took seventh place at the Class 1A Byron Sectional, finishing with a 357. Byron won with a 329. Senior Paul DiFranco shot a 78 to advance to state. Other scorers were Will Lyon (90), Martin Burch (94) and Michael DiFranco (95).
At state, DiFranco tied for 27th with a two-day total of 168. He shot an 85 on the first day and followed that with an 83.
•In Class 3A, Niles West’s Skylar Le Vine qualified for state after shooting a 76 at the Conant Sectional.
At state, Le Vine tied for 34th place with a 160 total. He carded an 81 in the opening round and followed that with a 79.
