Plainfield Fest 2015 is set for this weekend and some roads in the area will be closed during the annual festival.
The road closures will occur beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday and last until the early morning hours of July 20. Lockport Street between Route 59 and Fox River Street will be completely closed to all traffic, and Lockport between James Street and Fox River will be checkpoint controlled. It will be open to local businesses and residents, and handicapped parking.
Des Plaines Street between Ottawa Street and Oak Street will be closed, as will Illinois Street between the Plainfield Public Library and the alley just south of Lockport. Chicago Street between Illinois and Fox River will be closed, and a checkpoint for local residents and handicapped parking will be located at Illinois and Chicago. Fox River between Lockport and Ottawa will be a checkpoint-controlled access for residents and businesses.
Festival parking is available at Plainfield Central High School. Additional parking is located at the municipal parking lots on Des Plaines Street north of Oak and the lot next to the library on Illinois Street.
Handicapped parking is available on Lockport east of James, and on Chicago between Illinois and Des Plaines. Additional parking will also be available at Riverfront Park, along the west side of the access road, and at Plainfield Village Hall.
Plainfield police said motorists should anticipate longer than normal delays in traffic movement and be aware of the increase in pedestrian traffic in the downtown area.
