The St. Andrew Crusaders 7th/8th grade boys basketball team has had a very successful season this year outscoring their opponents 473 to 314, an incredible 159 point differential. Starting the season with a buzzer beater loss to Saint Joseph’s Lockport, the boys were hungry to get their first win. They weren’t just hungry for one win, they were hungry for eleven straight conference wins. The Crusaders won the 8th grade South Suburban Catholic Conference Blue Division with a record of 11 wins and one loss. During the season, the Crusaders earned a Third place finish in the St. Jude New Lenox “Shoot the Hoop” tournament.

After advancing to the finals by defeating the St. Dennis Cardinals, the next task was to defeat the St. Joseph Lockport Trojans to earn a two-peat as Champions. On March 15th, at Joliet Catholic Academy, St. Andrews went head to head with the Trojans in an exciting, down to the wire game that came to the final possessions. In the end, the Crusaders were able to capitalize on key chances in the last minute, earning the victory 48-43 and their second straight Championship.

Head coach Shane Darcy praised his players: “Each player contributed something to making us a Championship team, from cheering on the bench to scoring baskets. Everyone improved and matured as the season went on. We won a lot of games, but most importantly, the team players had fun. And to the eighth graders, good luck in high school and enjoy the next chapter in your life. To the seventh graders, I hope to see you all next year.
Thanks for an awesome season.”
