4th grader recognized for making 911 call that helped save grandmother
Marc Schmidt’s quick-thinking 911 call helped to save his grandmother, according to Woodridge School District 68.
Members of the Woodridge Police Department visited William F. Murphy Elementary School Oct. 11 to recognize fourth grader Marc Schmidt for his bravery and assistance when calling 911 from his home over the weekend.
Schmidt’s parents were out of town, and he was alone with his grandmother when he heard her cries for help.
He immediately called 911 and answered all the dispatcher’s questions in a calm and clear-headed way.
The Woodridge student then assisted the responding police officers in making entry into the home.
For his ability to keep his composure in an emergency and for assisting the police and fire departments in getting emergency medical assistance to his grandmother, Schmidt was awarded a Certificate of Recognition.
