Presence Health will have a new leadership structure for the south suburban region that includes Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Lowell Johnson will be the new CEO of Presence Health’s south suburban region. Johnson will assume leadership responsibilities effective immediately with a focus on Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Kathleen Rhine will continue as CEO of Presence St. Mary’s Hospital until a new leader is installed there.
Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center serves Will and surrounding counties, including the southwest Chicago suburbs. Designated as a Primary Stroke Center, Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center’s Neuroscience Institute provides 24/7 neurosurgeons, neurologists and neurointerventionalists.
Johnson was the former interim CEO of Presence Health’s Northwest Chicago region, which includes Presence Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines and Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. While there, he led significant improvements in financial results, health outcomes and engagement of associates and physicians. He has extensive experience in healthcare management and hospital administration, and is qualified to manage diverse relationships with local board members, physicians, associates and the communities they serve.

Presence St. Mary’s Hospital is a 186-bed acute care facility with a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center, and serves Kankakee and the surrounding counties. Presence St. Mary’s Hospital is a designated Primary Stroke Center and received Full Heart Failure Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.
