In the Southwest Prairie Conference West Division, the two schools predicted by many, to take home the 2021 conference championship are Plainfield North Tigers or the Panthers of Oswego. On Monday, in the first game of their crucial SPC West three-game series in Plainfield, the Tigers won 9-6. In 2018 when JCA won the IHSA Class 5A state football title, it was apparent to those watching the games just how battle-tested the Hilltoppers were. Joliet Catholic lost four games that season and needed to win its final game just to qualify for the playoffs. For many years the Plainfield North Tigers and the Oswego Panthers had many memorable battles on the diamond, battling for the old 10-team Southwest Prairie Conference title. With the addition of West Aurora and Yorkville at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, the SPC split into two divisions - the East and the West.
