A. Vito Martinez tabbed as 'Best of Romeoville'
Jane Addams Middle School has been named to Chicago's Magazine's annual list of Best Schools in Will County which will appear in the magazine's September edition. Jane Addams is ranked third on the elementary and middle schools list. Jane Addams is second among the middle schools listed and one of only two middle schools to make the top ten in the elementary and middle school category.
A.Vito Martinez Middle School Recognized as "Best of Romeoville"
A.Vito Martinez Middle School has been selected for a 2019 Best of Romeoville Award in the Schools category. The Best of Romeoville Program identifies Romeoville civic organizations and businesses in the community "who help make the Romeoville area a great place to live, work and play."
Martinez Middle School is being recognized for the integral role the students, parents, and staff members play in providing an outstanding educational experience for students in the community.
VVSD Board of Education Superintendent Search Community Survey Open Through Sept. 2
The Valley View School District 365U Board of Education is conducting a community survey as part of the process for identifying candidates to become the next superintendent of schools. Current Superintendent of School Dr. James A. Mitchem, Jr. will be retiring at the end of the 2019-20 school year.
The VVSD Board of Education invites any interested community member or VVSD staff member to complete the survey which contains seven questions and will take about five minutes to complete.
This survey will be open through Monday, Sept. 2.
Marching Spartans Make Final Preparations for Their Season
The Romeoville HS Marching Spartans are now officially ready for their season after the 16th Annual Marching Spartans Picnic, Field Show Demo & March Off.
This year's Drum Majors will be Zoe Anthony, Becca Barrett, Jacob Pipowski, and Zoe Swank. This year's March Off was won by Daisy Orozco, followed by Rochelle Rocha in second place and Ethan Justice in third place.
The Marching Spartans will compete seven times this season, highlighted by their Home Show on Sat.
Oct. 5 and their 24th appearance at the Illinois State Field Championship on Sat. Oct. 19. They will also perform at the first home football game of the year on Fri. Sept. 6 during the game against Yorkville HS.
Village of Romeoville Holiday Card Contest
The Village of Romeoville is conducting a Holiday Card Design Contest open to Romeoville residents of all ages and artistic abilities. The design of the winner will be used on the official Village of Romeoville 2019 Holiday Card. Visit the Village of Romeoville website for complete details. The deadline for entries is Fri, Oct. 4.
Northern Illinois Food Bank
The Northern Illinois Food Bank is conducting mobile food banks and micro pantries in the vicinity in the near future.
There will be a Mobile Food Bank on Fri, Sept. 6 from 3-5 pm at the First Assembly of God Church located at 1741 Essington Rd. in Joliet. Please bring bags or boxes. Micro Pantries are designed to allow anonymous food pick-up for those in need and a drop-off point for those who wish to help. Micro pantries are accessible 24 hours a day. West Suburban Community Pantry in association with the Northern IL Food Bank will be hosting a Community Mobile Pantry in Bolingbrook every first Monday of the month. Each Community Mobile Pantry will offer fresh produce, proteins and staple items for those struggling to put food on the table. Different organizations from the community will also be present to connect community members and their families with services that can help put them back on your feet.
