Presentation for parents on dangers of drugs and vaping to be held in Plainfield

"Vaping, Marijuana and Opioids - What Do You Know?" Oct. 10 at 5 p.m.

Parents with concerns about drug use and Vaping among teens are invited to learn more at a presentation on Oct. 10.

The Plainfield Parent Community Network will present "Vaping, Marijuana and Opioids - What Do You Know?" at 5 p.m. in the auditorium at Plainfield East High School, 12001 Naperville Road.

The district said the presentation is intended for parents, caregivers, family members, teach ers, school staff and administrators, social workers, nurses, psychologists and counselors.

"It is vitally important that our community understand the significant, dangerous and sometimes deadly impact that each of these can have on their children," said Tim Albores, District 202 director of high school student services. "We hope that sharing this information may help parents help their kids make good life choices that will keep them safe."

The program will feature Dr. Kathleen Burke, manager of the Illinois Drug Overdose Prevention Project in Will County, which trains law enforcement and community members to prevent overdose deaths, and Dr. Aaron Weiner, a clinical psychologist and Director of Addiction Services for Linden Oaks Behavioral Health.

Parents can also see the "Hidden in Plain Sight" trailer, which shows where alcohol and Drugs can be hidden in plain sight in a typical teen bedroom.
