Shorewood police hiring officers

Shorewood currently has 30 sworn officers with a starting annual salary of $66,797

The Village of Shorewood has begun accepting applications for police officers.

Up to 150 applications will be accepted until Dec. 6 at applytoserve.com. There is a $45 processing fee to apply.

"The eligibility list is prepared every so often until we hire them all or they fail to make it through the process and the list has to be reassembled," Mayor Rick Chapman said. "If you want to become a cop, now is the time to do that."

Shorewood currently has 30 sworn officers with a starting annual salary of $66,797.

Officers also receive insurance benefits, vacation, ten holidays and two personal days each year.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens between 21- and 35-years old with a valid driver's license and high school diploma. Shorewood police officers are not allowed to have "vulgar or offensive tattoos" or any tattoos on their face, neck or hands.

"Visible tattoos cannot be larger than one-quarter of the exposed body part," according to department policy.

Copies of a candidate's driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, diploma or G.E.D., college transcripts and military service records must be submitted with the application.
