Joliet Catholic Academy president/principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is pleased to announce the December Students of the Month: Max Toborg (Kiwanis Club), Madison Mikuska (Rotary Club), and Samantha Scordo (Lions Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited both in the classroom and out in the community.
Max Toborg, son of Shaun and the late Kris Toborg, currently has a 4.70 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Toborg is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. Toborg is president of the JCA senior class, secretary of the Habitat for Humanity Environmental Club, and captain of the JCA boys varsity volleyball program. He plans on attending UCLA or USC to study architecture.
Madison Mikuska, daughter of Daniel and Ramee Mikuska, currently has a 4.95 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Mikuska is the president of National Honor Society and a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Spanish Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. She is also the JCA Student Council Executive Board president, vice president of Respect Life Club, president of Spanish Club, member of JCA Student Ambassadors, and a member of Habitat for Humanity. Mikuska is also a member of the JCA girls soccer program, helping lead the program to new heights with three regional championships, three sectional championships, a super-sectional championship, and an IHSA Class 2A 4th place finish at the state finals. Mikuska is actively involved locally with the Lockport Soccer Club and serves as a lifeguard at Springbank Aquatic Center in Plainfield. Recently, Mikuska helped lead JCA students by organizing the March 2019 St. Baldrick's Foundation Fundraiser, which raised over $15,000 for childhood cancer research. She plans on attending either the University of Arkansas or the University of Missouri to study psychology.
Samantha Scordo, daughter of Anthony and Holly Scordo, currently has a 4.86 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Scordo is a member of National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and International Thespian Honor Society. She is also actively involved in JCA's Respect Life Club, Students 4 Troops, JCA Student Ambassadors, JCA Student Council, and serves as president of the JCA Drama Club. Scordo was recently named an Illinois State Scholar. She has also captain of the JCA girls tennis program, which captured an IHSA Class 1A Sectional Championship. Scordo qualified for the IHSA State tournament after finishing second in the sectionals with her first doubles partner. A four-year member of the JCA honor roll, Scordo plans on attending Bradley University to major in public health, minor in Spanish, and plans to obtain a masters in genetic counseling.
