Through the help of grant funding, the Village of Romeoville will soon construct a new 3.1 mile bike path that stretches from Weber Road to Airport Road. Grant funds from the Transportation Alternatives Program were approved by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and will cover 80 percent of the construction costs, plus engineering fees, for a total grant of $1.2 million.
"This is a fantastic use for land that has been otherwise reserved for ComEd power lines," explained Mayor John Noak. "It provides yet another amenity for our residents to get outside and be active and also connects many of our western neighborhoods."
The path will begin on the west side of Weber Road and angle southwest to Airport Road. A branch of the pathway will also extend to the I-55 Frontage Road. Project completion is expected during Summer of 2020.
