Tigers and Hawks take home Class 4A Regional championships

Twenty-four consecutive wins and the 2020 IHSA Class 4A Joliet West Regional Championship.

On Joliet's West Side on Thursday night, Joliet West slipped past Moline 49-45 to defend its house and win the Class 4A Joliet West Regional championship. It was the 24th consecutive game the 29-3 Tigers were victorious.

Up next for the Tigers will be a long bus ride to the Peoria-area and a date with Lincoln-Way West (29-3) in a IHSA Class 4A Pekin Sectional semifinal, Tuesday at 7.

West's Lisa Thompson advances to Country Financial Three-Point Showdown Sectional round next week.

ELK GROVE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Maine South 68 Elk Grove 29

The Hawks (26-6) opened up a 17-0 lead in the first five minutes of their Class 4A Regional championship game with the hosts from Elk Grove (16-12). The Hawks led 20-6 after one quarter, 39-16 at the half and 58-26 at the end of three quarters to initiate the 30-point running clock.

After qualifying for state in The Country Financial Three-Point Showdown before the game, Hawk junior, Niki Manolis buried five more shots from beyond the arc and grab game-scoring honors with 19 points.

The Gardiner Sisters, juniors, Niamh (16 points, four 3's) and Nicole (16points, three 3's) added seven more long-range three-pointers of the 13 the Hawks dropped on the Grenadiers for the night.

Maine South's Manolis and Nicole Gardiner advance to three-Point showdown sectional round next week.

LOCKPORT

Thornwood 49 Lockport 28

The Porters bow out at 19-14 with the home loss to the Thundebirds (20-9). Lockport's Elizabeth "Bits" Sochacki advances to Country Financial Three-Point Showdown Sectional round next week.

CLASS 2A ST. JOSEPH SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Marshall 64 Lisle 30

The two-time defending IHSA Class 2A State Champion Lady Commandos from Marshall (20-10) rolled past the Lions (27-8) in Westchester on Thursday. The Lion defeat put an end to one of the most successful seasons in Lisle Lion girls' basketball history.

The 27 wins in 2019-20 set a Lisle record for most wins in a season. The Lions took home the inaugural Illinois Central 8 Conference championship and won their own IHSA Class 2A Lisle Regional championship.
