The Edward Cancer Centers in Naperville and Plainfield have completed the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx).
To earn the four-year accreditation, a facility must be in compliance with APEx standards that are based on five pillars of patient care: process of care, radiation oncology team, safety, quality management and patient-centered treatment.
The Edward Cancer Centers in Naperville and Plainfield are part of Edward-Elmhurst Health. The Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center at Elmhurst Hospital, also part of Edward-Elmhurst Health, previously earned APEx accreditation in 2017. The Edward-Elmhurst Cancer Centers are three of only five in Illinois with APEx accreditation.
The cancer programs at Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals are also accredited by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer (CoC) and the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC).
Patients benefit from the expertise of Edward-Elmhurst medical and radiation oncologists who work closely with primary care physicians and surgeons to coordinate care and develop individualized treatment plans. Physicians are supported by oncology certified nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, nurse navigators, social workers, dietitians, chaplains and other healthcare providers.
Edward-Elmhurst's cancer treatment features multidisciplinary clinics, genetic testing, the latest clinical trials, CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery, NanoKnife (advanced pancreatic, liver and soft tissue cancers), da Vinci robotic surgery, HIPEC (a procedure that combines surgery, heat and chemotherapy to treat certain types of cancer), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and TrueBeam radiotherapy.
