Downers Grove North High School student named to IHSA All-State Academic Team

Downers Grove North High School senior Emmitt (Christopher) Thulin has been named to the Illinois High School Association's 2020-21 All-State Academic Team. He is one of 26 students from across the state to be placed on the team, based on his academic record, participation in IHSA sponsored activities and/or athletics and outstanding leadership.

"Emmitt is an outstanding student, leader, and role model for our entire student body," North High School Principal Janice Schwarze said. "We're incredibly proud of him and so grateful that he received this well-deserved prestigious recognition."

Emmitt has been a member of Investment Club, Psychology Club, Changemakers, and North Stars. In addition, he is the captain of the Speech Team, a branch leader for Empowerment Club, and President of National Honors Society. Emmitt has played volleyball every year at North and also has served as the team captain.

Every IHSA member school was invited to nominate one female student and one male student by the February deadline. Nominees needed to possess a minimum 3.50 grade point average on 4.0 scale after their 7th semester, have participated in at least two IHSA sponsored sports or activities during each of the last two years and demonstrated outstanding citizenship. The nominations were evaluated by a committee of IHSA principals, athletic directors and activities directors.

"This is a tremendous honor, and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished," said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. "These students are the embodiment of what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience. I am thankful to Caterpillar for providing the All-State Academic Team platform to honor and congratulate them."
