This Chicago Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic-White Division Class 5A Top Ten battle was originally scheduled for Friday night. On March 19, Fenwick had their season opener with Nazareth Academy (AP Class 7A No.3) cancelled due to a Fenwick athlete testing positive for the world-wide virus.

The Friars will come off quarantine on Friday, thus the game will be moved up to Sunday night — could there be a guest appearance from NBC's Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth?

WEEK ONE JOLIET CATHOLIC 49 ST. LAURENCE 0

FENWICK (0-0; AP CLASS 5A NO.9)- The Friars were scheduled to meet Nazareth Academy (AP Class 7A No.3) at Triton on the 19th. The game was cancelled when a Fenwick athlete tested positive for the world-wide virus.

JOLIET CATHOLIC (1-0) AP CLASS 5A NO.3- Hilltoppers senior defensive end Pat Strocchia recovered three St. Laurence fumbles, all in the second quarter, of the Hilltoppers 49-0 season-opening blow-out win.

All-Staters, junior running back Jordan Anderson (14 carries, 121 yards,three TDs) and senior safety Jabril Williams (two interceptions, 40-yard pick-six), did shine in the opening night victory. Hilltopper junior QB Aidan Voss threw for 71 yards and ran for another 52 yards, with an 18-yard touchdown pass to fellow junior, WR Jake Fieldman (3 catches, 71 yards,TD).

Junior FB Vinny Iannantone rumbled for 85 yards on just nine carries and had a 18-yard touchdown rumble.

The Hilltopper defense unleashed a physical beating on St. Laurence backs, which led to the four Viking fumbles in the second quarter, held St.Laurence to 100 total yards of offense.

Maine South, Evanston battle at historic Murney Lazier Field in CSL South Showdown

On Friday night at historic Murney Lazier Field, the undefeated Maine South Hawks will battle the undefeated host Wildkits of Evanston. Lazier is the legendary Evanston head football coach (1958-1974) who compiled a 117-16 record in his 17 years as coach of the Wildkits.

In week one, both Evanston and Maine South rolled to easy Central Suburban South wins. On Friday night expect a showdown between Evanston junior quarterback Sean Cruz and Maine South senior QB Luke Leongas.

EVANSTON- Behind four touchdown passes and more than 200 yards in the air from Wildkit junior QB Sean Cruz, Evanston destroyed Glenbrook North on Friday. Fellow junior WR Kamau Ransome caught a pair of scoring strikes from Cruz.

Junior RB Sebastian Cheeks rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries and had a touchdown. (Evanston 8-to-18 website report)

MAINE SOUTH- Everyone on the Hawks roster played in the huge season-opening win over Niles West. Senior QB Luke Leongas completed 12 of his 15 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Leongas also ran 36 yards for a score. Junior WR Mike Sajenko hauled in three Leongas tosses for 132 yards and a pair of touchdown strikes. Senior TE John Sasson caught the other touchdown toss from Leongas.

Plainfield North Tigers look to avenge 2019 loss at Oswego

Saturday, September 28, 2019 — Oswego 14 Plainfield North 13.

Rallying from a 14-0 deficit in the fourth quarter, the Tigers pulled within 14-13 with 36 seconds remaining in the game. Tigers QB Adam Smith hit WR Jaylon Tillman from 20-yards out for six to pull North within one point. After a timeout the Tigers game-winning two-point conversion failed.

On Friday night, revenge will be on the minds of the Plainfield North Tigers.

Plainfield North 34 ROMEOVILLE 0

OSWEGO led 12-0 over the Cougars at the half and added 12 more points in the second half to roll to the 24-0 shutout victory over Plainfield South.

PLAINFIELD NORTH The Tigers were led on Friday night against Romeoville by their 5-foot-6 149 pound junior running back Jared Gumila.

Gumila rushed for 144 yards on 25 carries and scored three touchdowns for the Tigers. Senior QB Adam Smith connected on eight of 14 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown to senior Josh Hlavacek.

Smith's favorite target is the lightning-quick senior Trevor Bruton, who hauled in four Smith passes for 55 yards. Senior DB Danny Nuccio led the Tiger defense with nine tackles to contribute to the Tigers shutout.

Indians, Ryan look to improve to 2-0 with win over Oswego East

Led by senior RB Hunter Ryan, the Minooka Indians picked up win No.1 for Minooka head coach Matt Harding with the shootout win at Plainfield East.

Harding of course was the defensive mastermind of the 2019, 11-1 Indians. As defensive coordinator for Hall of Fame Indians head coach John Belskis, the 2019 Indians set a record for most wins in a season with 11.

On Friday night, SPC-West contender Oswego East will invade the enlarged Central Stadium Field (7,000 seat capacity).

OSWEGO EAST rolled past the Joliet West Tigers in their opener and travel to Minooka for an SPC West battle of unbeaten teams.

MINOOKA Indians senior RB Hunter Ryan, in his first game replacing Minooka's legendary RB Noah Ellens, had 198 yards of total offense and scored three touchdowns. Ryan rushed for 149 yards on 16 carries and ran for a pair of touchdowns. Ryan added five receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown catch from senior QB Josh Davis. Davis completed seven of his 16 passes for 75 yards. Davis also ran for 95 yards on just 11 carries and a touchdown.

NILES WEST- First mighty Maine South in Park Ridge and then the Wolves home-opener against mighty New Trier (1-0) on Friday.

Against Maine South, Wolves junior QB Jake Leons completed six of his 15 passes for 68 yards and a 33-yard scoring strike to junior Max Nauman (two catches, 38 yards, TD). Leons carried the ball 12 times for 76 yards.

The Wolves look to shock the mighty Trevians in Skokie on Friday night.

AURORA CHRISTIAN-The Eagles were ambushed by St Edward's senior RB Joe Sacco who scored two touchdowns and ran for 163 yards in leading the Green Wave to victory.

WESTMONT- The Sentinels were led by their 6-foot-1, 230 pound fullback Ben Juska. Juska rumbled for 127 yards on just 10 carries and made three trips into the end zone. Juska also hauled in six passes for 46 yards from junior QB Matt Domin.

Domin completed 13 of his 23 passing attempts for 103 yards and ran for 65 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown.

PLAINFIELD CENTRAL Wildcats sophomore running back Aaron Larkins electrified the Wildcat fans when he raced 82-yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for an early 7-0 lead. Larkins would rush for 107 yards on 12 carries on the night.

Senior QB Chris Leto completed 12 of his 31 tosses for 144 yards including an 11-yard TD strike to WR Charlton Jones. Junior WR Dylan Moscatelli hauled down five of Leto's passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Senior WR Mike Healy added three catches for 35 yards.

Wildcat junior LB Francesco Bruno led the 'Cat defense with 16 tackles.

PLAINFIELD EAST Plainfield East was led by the Bengals passing duo of senior QB Brett Winiecki and 6-foot-5 senior WR Connor Bright. Winiecki completed 16 of his 20 passes for 208 yards with two touchdowns. Winiecki also rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown. Bright hauled in seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, while senior Jordan Knowles added three grabs for 65 yards and a touchdown catch.

ROMEOVILLE (0-1)- The Spartans were led by junior DE Jordan Maloney, who had 6.5 tackles in the game. On three occasions, Maloney tackled Tiger ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage for three TFL's.

Senior CB Jacquille Brown added six tackles and senior DB Alan Jones picked up his first interception of the season.

JOLIET WEST (0-1) The Tigers were led by junior LB Bryan McCoy, who had eight tackles including a tackle for loss. Junior LB Art Hrvatin dropped a pair of Oswego East backs behind the line of scrimmage and senior DB Dazdan Jackson had seven tackles.

SANDBURG The Eagles scored 24 first-quarter points and coasted to the SWSC crossover win.

LOCKPORT The Porters traveled to Flossmoor and were defeated by the Associated Press' Illinois Class 8A No.10 Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings.

The Porter QB's Riley Pfieffer (11-of-15, 95 yards, TD, 2 INT) and 6-foot-7, 232 pound junior Hayden Timosciek (7-for-12, 56 yards,TD) completed 18 of their 27 passes for 151 yards in the game with two touchdown tosses.

Junior Ryan Little (four receptions, 66 yards,TD) and senior Kyle Yehling (four recpeptions, 19 yards, TD), hauled in the two Porter TD receptions.

The Porters look to even up their SSWC-Blue record against the Eagles on Friday night in their 2020-21 home opener.

BOLINGBROOK (0-1)The Raiders trailed only 14-7 at the half before the defending Class 8A state champion Griffins caught fire to roll to the impressive victory.

The Raiders were led by their Batavia-transfer senior QB, Vincenzo Meschi who completed 26 of his 53 passes and two touchdowns. Senior WR Andre McElroy was Meschi's favorite target with 12 receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown. Junior Kyan Berry-Johnson hauled in nine Meschi tosses for 83 yards.
