The Porters (2-1) took home fifth place in the prestigious "Do it Stevie's Way" Steven M Bajenski Memorial Tournament with the victory over the Vikings (1-2).

With the game deadlocked at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, junior Griffin Brown came through in the clutch for the Porters.

Senior winning pitcher, Matt Santarelli singled to lead off the inning and with one out Vic Iizquerdo (2-for-3), singled advancing Tony Francone, the courtesy runner for Santarelli, to third. Izquerdo moved into second on the throw.

Brown ripped a line single to center scoring Francone and Izquerdo for a 4-2 Porter lead.

Santarelli, who struck out four in his game-winning, two inning stint, blanked the Vikings in the sixth.

Moving from his familiar shortstop position, Porter senior Ryan Moerman, moved to the closer role.

Moerman struck out the last three hopes of the Vikings on just 13 pitches to nail down the save for Santarelli (1-0).

The Porters received another outstanding effort from their starting pitchers, as senior right hander Mike Hughes allowed one unearned run and one hit in his four innings of work.

NONCONFERENCE

MAINE EAST 7 GOOD STEM ACADEMY 1

The Blue Demons (1-2) put this one away early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and coasting to their first win of the season. Junior RHP Gabe Escobar (1-0) scattered eight hits and came within one out of a complete game. Escobar fanned eight.

Senior Chris Illiopolis led the seven-hit Blue Demon attack with two hits, including a double and drove home a Blue Demon run. Chris Miller went 1-for-1, scored a run and had an RBI, while freshman Jalen Moraga chipped in with a 1-for-2 game with an RBI.

NILES WEST 7 PAYTON 3

The Wolves (1-1-1) picked up their first win of 2021, breaking this one open with a three-run sixth inning.

Junior Johnny Raciti led the Wolves with a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3, scoring two-runs and driving in another. Senior Sean Holbrook also had a perfect 2-for-2 day with an RBI.

Senior Kyle Gibson singled home the third run of the big three-run, sixth inning to make it 7-3 Wolves, and added a double for his 2-for-4 day at the plate.

On the mound, junior RHP Sean Carey (1-0), picked up the win, allowing one earned run and three hits, while striking out four in his 3.2 innings pitched. Junior RHP Jason Schroeder (two innings) and senior RHP Kevin Plach (1.1 innings), combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for the victorious Wolves,

LANE TECH 3 MAINE SOUTH 0

The Hawks (1-2) were shutout by the Indians (2-0) at Kerry Wood Stadium in Chicago on Friday night. Senior Timmy O' Brien had a pair of singles to lead the Hawks. Barliant Arran (0-1) allowed two runs and five hits with five strikeouts and suffered the loss on the mound.

YORKVILLE 11 WESTMONT 1 (6 innings)

The Foxes (2-0) scored three runs in the first inning and rolled to the nonconference win over the Sentinels (0-3). Junior Caleb Kleinz had a double and drove home freshman Noah Valintin (1-for-2, R,BB) with the lone Sentinel run.
