LYONS TWP 15 DOWNERS GROVE NORTH 14 (9 INNINGS)

For the third consecutive game, the Trojans (0-3, 0-3) battled the defending WSC Silver champion Lyons Township (3-0, 3-0) to the bitter end. This time the Lions needed nine innings to complete the sweep of the valiant Trojans.

In a back and forth affair, the Trojans led 8-4 after four innings and 11-8 after five innings. LT scored six runs in the sixth to open up a 14-11 lead. The Trojans pulled to within 14-12 after six.

After two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the never-say-die Trojans rallied. Senior Luke Nielsen walked and when freshman George Wolkow reached on an error, the Legion Field crowd felt some Trojan Magic in the air.

Senior Luke Wilson ripped a two-out, two-run game-tying double, scoring Nielsen and Wolkow and the Trojans were deadlocked at 14-14.

The game would go to the ninth and LT scored the lead run a Trojan miscue for a 15-14 lead.

Trojan sophomore Ean Czech led off the DGN ninth with a single and advance to second on a passed ball but advance no further. Lyons would hung on for the 15-14 victory.

Czech finished his monster day at the plate with two singles, a triple and drive home three Trojan runs.

Senior Dave Marshall had a single and an RBI, while Wolkow drove home two Trojan runs without the benefit of a hit. Senior Angus Nemith chipped in with a single and an RBI.

NONCONFERENCE

Plainfield Central 11 BRADLEY-BOURBONNAIS 4

The Wildcats (2-0) trailed 2-0 as the game went to the bottom of the third to the guests from Bradley. With the bases loaded and nobody out, senior Nate Sommerfeld ripped a game-tying, two-run single to left. Senior Nate Buchan (2-for-4, RBI) put the 'Cats up for good 3-2 with an RBI single.

Senior Spencer Ruch (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI) ripped an RBI double and after senior Howard Leroy Jordan's (3-for-4,2RBI) RBI single the 'Cats led 5-2. Junior Cam Velasquez's sacrifice fly concluded the six-run Wildcat third. They added four more runs in the fourth to put this one away.

Junior RHP Carter Prochaska (1-0) struck out five and allowed one earned run and two hits in his four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for the Wildcats.

PLAINFIELD CENTRAL 12 WEST CHICAGO 0 (5 innings) Wednesday

In their season opener at West Chicago on Wednesday, senior RHP Jack Irwin (WP, 3IP, 0H,5K), junior LHP Tanner Wagnon (1IP, 0H.2K) and junior LHP Josh Culbertson (1IP, OH, 3K) combined to no-hit the hosts from West Chicago.

Irwin, led the Wildcats' assault with a single and a triple and drive home five 'Cat runs.

BOLINGBROOK 13 JOLIET CENTRAL 3

This battle of 1-0 teams was deadlocked at 3-3 entering the top of the sixth inning. The Raiders (2-0) exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth to put this one in the win column.

Senior catcher Hunter Hrycyk's RBI single would give the Raiders a 4-3 lead with one out in the sixth.

Senior David Undernook doubled to left, plating a pair of Raider runs for a 6-3 Raider lead. Junior Martin Boland made it 7-3 Raiders with an RBI single. Juniors Rene Martinez Jr. and Dillon Hinojosa picked up RBIs on bases loaded walks before senior Connor Quigley picked up an RBI single for a 10-3 lead.

Undernook led the 14-hit Raider attack with two doubles and a triple with three ribbies. Boland had a perfect day at the plate with two singles, two walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Quigley had a three-hit day with an RBI and senior Adam Hermann III launched his first home run of the season.

RHP Martinez Jr (1-0) fired three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit to pick up the win.

The Steelmen (1-1) were led by senior Nathan Valdez, who doubled and drove home two runs. Alex Rocha chipped in with a pair of singles.

NILES WEST 12 ROLLING MEADOWS 2 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Wolves (2-1-1), exploded for nine runs, all after two outs, in the bottom of the second to put this one in the win column in Skokie. Junior Brendan Som had an RBI double to put the Wolves up 3-0. Junior Alex Cherian had the big blow of the inning, when he tripled with the bases full of Wolves for a 6-0 Niles West lead,

Senior Emel Durakovic had two singles and an RBI, while sophomore Damon Brena chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Senior RHP Kyle Gibson (1-0) struck out nine Mustang hitters in his four shutout innings allowing just one hit to pick up the win.

MAINE SOUTH 9 BUFFALO GROVE 4

The Hawks picked up the nonconference win to even up their record at 2-2. The Hawks led 5-3 after six innings before blowing open the game with a four-run seventh.

Junior Charlie Scau led the 13-hit Hawks attack with a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon. Schau fell a double short of hitting for the cycle with a single, triple and and his first home run of the season.

Sophomore Kerim Orucevic added a double, triple and had two RBIs, while junior Elliot Higgins chipped in with a double and an RBI for the Hawks. Junior Andrew Randazzo joined the Hawks party, with a single and a ribbie.

On the mound, Leo Corbett (1-0) allowed two earned runs and four hits in his solid five innings to pick up the win.

VON STEUBEN 8 MAINE EAST 2

The Blue Demons (1-3) led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth in Chicago. Von Steuben scored eight runs in the inning to finish off the Blue Demons.

Chris Illiopoulos and Chris Miller each had two hits for East, while Gabe Escobar and Jalen Moraga, each singled and drove home a Blue Demon run.

NAPERVILLE NORTH 10 ROMEOVILLE 5

The nonconference game at the 'Ville started out as a slugfest, with the guests from Naperville North (3-1) leading 7-4 after after three innings. Senior Jackson Hannah had a single and drove home two Spartan runs. Senior Nate Schuster had two hits, including a double, while junior Jaden Holgado also had a pair of hits for the Spartans (2-1).

STEVENSON 10 NOTRE DAME 6

The Patriots (2-0) scored four times in the top of the seventh breaking up a 6-6 game and go on to the non-conference victory in Niles. Mike O'Connor had four hits, including a triple and drove home three runs to lead the Dons (1-2), attack. Joey Cullen had a pair of singles and two RBI, while Matt Melendez and Max McGovern each chipped in with a pair of hits.

NAPERVILLE CENTRAL 4 PLAINFIELD EAST 3

The Bengals (0-3) lost a second consecutive heart-breaking one-run loss, this time to the undefeated Redhawks (3-0). Senior Mike Bailey led the Bengals attack with two hits, while junior Sebastian Pape singled and drove home a Bengals run.

Bengal sophomore starting and losing LHP Brady Louck (0-1) allowed one earned run and four hits, in is 3.2 innings pitched, striking out four.

SANDBURG 10-7 JOLIET WEST 4-4 (Second game 5 innings)

The Tigers (1-3) were swept at home in Joliet by Sandburg (3-2) on Saturday afternoon,

In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and rolled to the non-conference victory.

Tiger senior Josh Wokurka singled, doubled and drove home two West runs in game one. Senior Camden Karczewski added a single and had a pair of RBIs.

In game two, a five-inning affair, Sandburg again jumped out to a 7-0 lead and completed the sweep of the Tigers.

The Tigers had just two hits in game two but one of them was a big one. Junior Ty Simulick doubled with the bases loaded, pulling the Tigers within 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Ethan R. Adamowsi singled for the other Tiger hit.

NORTHRIDGE PREP 12-9 WESTMONT 1-8 (Both games, five Innings)

The Sentinels (0-5) were swept by their guests from Niles on Saturday. In game one the Sentinels had just one hit — a junior Caleb Kleinz single.

In game two, the Sentinels led 3-2 after one, 6-3 after two, 8-4 after three and 8-5 after four innings, before the Knights (2-1) scored four times in the fifth to sweep the doubleheader.

Junior Jason Czaplewski doubled and drove home a run for the Sentinels, while senior Spencer Anton added an RBI single.
