Comedy star recreates iconic moment at popular chicken finger brand's Morton Grove location with massive Christmas lights display featuring over 13,000 bulbs
Legendary actor Chevy Chase joined Raising Cane's Founder and Co-CEO Todd Graves to light up Morton Grove's Raising Cane's on Tuesday night, creating a massive holiday display that had everyone recalling their favorite moment from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Chase – better known as Clark Griswold from the beloved holiday classic – joined Graves to unofficially kickoff the Christmas season by "plugging in" the holiday lights display at the Raising Cane's located at 6881 Dempster St. in Morton Grove, Illinois. Graves surprised Chase on site with a replica "Family Truckster" from Christmas Vacation, on loan from the Volo Museum, after recreating one of the movie's most iconic scenes, while everyone in attendance laughed and cheered.
Chase bantered with over 500 Caniacs and Christmas Vacation fans that lined up to catch the scenic moment in person, as well as enjoy the festive atmosphere featuring hot chocolate and Christmas carolers. Customers wanting to take home a memento from the occasion or simply add a holiday stocking stuffer purchased limited-edition Christmas Vacation plush puppies featuring Clark, Cousin Eddie and Aunt Bethany.
Plush puppies are available at all Cane's Restaurants throughout the holiday season, with all proceeds from the Christmas Vacation-themed plush puppy going to pet welfare groups locally across the country – including Pup Culture Rescue, a charity in Los Angeles that is personal to Chevy Chase and his wife, Jayni. Cane's goal this year is to raise and donate over $400,000 across all the organizations.
As an homage to the scene made famous by Chase and the rest of the Griswold family, Morton Grove's Raising Cane's light display features more than 13,000 light bulbs on the Restaurant and landscaping as well as the iconic Santa Claus, reindeer and sled outdoor decorations that take flight later in the movie. Customers are welcome to visit the Cane's in Morton Grove for photo opportunities as the lights display will be up through the holiday season.
At Raising Cane's, it all starts with 100% premium white meat chicken tenderloins that are marinated, hand-battered and cooked to order. The menu is also renowned for its craveable – some say addictive – secret-recipe Cane's sauce, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, freshly brewed sweet tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade.
