District plans additional seminars this year

The Valley View School District hosted a town hall meeting last week inviting the community to an informal meeting with administration.
Superintendent James Mitchem and the administrative team were available for one-on-one questions from social services and technology to curriculum and finances.
The goal was to give parents an opportunity to ask questions in an informal setting while getting direct answers on-site. In addition, school officials were able to help parents sign up for the district’s new app as well as its edline system that gives parents access to student’s grades.
The district plans to host several informational seminars throughout the year. The next session, ‘Embracing the Internet while ensuring family safety,’ will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Lukancic Middle School, 725 Normantown Road. The interactive program (bring your smartphone or iPad) for parents will be presented by Detective Rick Wistocki, speakers bureau of the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The session will cover how to navigate sites youth may use, being aware of potential dangers, how to protect against sexual predators, cyberbullying and sexting, among other safety issues.
